Market on South

EVERYTHING IS VEGAN. I’ve never been to a restaurant where every single item was vegan. For vegetarians/vegans who struggle to find a decent meal at most restaurants that doesn't include a large salad, this place is perfect. Nothing is off limits and you don’t have to think twice about anything on the menu (if you’re vegan, obvi).

I got the Carolina BBQ Pulled Jackfruit sandwich. It had jackfruit, which has a “meaty” texture. This was my first time having jackfruit so I was really trusting the process on this one. I wasn’t sure what to expect at all but I wasn’t disappointed. The biggest mistake you can make is expecting this “pulled pork/chicken” substitute to taste exactly like meat. Once you have an open mind, the experience is a million times better.

The mac n cheese. The Mac N Cheese. THE MAC N CHEESE. For this dish to be void of all dairy products, more specifically cheese, it sure tasted exactly like traditional Mac n Cheese. I’m a Mac n Cheese connoisseur, I wouldn’t steer you wrong. I also had Braised Collards which are usually made using pork or turkey for flavor so, I was actually surprised that this was still flavorful without the added meat. If you aren’t sure what collard greens are, think along the lines of kale that’s flavorful and actually enjoyable to eat.

Price: A little pricey. My meal of $13 came with a sandwich and one side item. For the average person who only wants to spend about $7 at lunch time, this would be extremely unreasonable. But keep in mind that fresh vegetable and fruits aren't cheap when thinking about the price. Also keep in mind that in America the things that are actually better for us will cost you your life savings as opposed to a fake burger that’s only $1.50. *several moments of silence needed after sharing this fact*

Decor: Very "Earthy". I love it. It’s clean and there are several displays filled with vegan products being sold here (not food, like shirts, oils, candles, it’s dope)

Occasion: Good for a simple breakfast, lunch or dinner. They’re open until 11pm during the week. This was a huge deal to me because during the week, most restaurants close early and the only option is usually fast food. 11pm is enough time to get an extremely late dinner, dessert, or snack. That’s excellent. That’s iconic. That’s what I need in my life.

Dress Code: Dress how you’d like, it’s not a huge deal here. Everyone seems to be very accepting. Everyone is minding their business here, focusing on themselves or focusing on who can recruit the most people to become vegan (kidding, I can make these jokes because I’m apart of this community)

Seriously, this is good, wholesome food. Please go out on a limb and try something new!
