Honeybee Doughnuts

In the heart of South Miami, you’ll find Honeybee Doughnuts located in the corner of a cute little plaza. When you walk in, the first thing you’ll notice is the size of the location and the bright yellow paint but shortly after you’ll be distracted by the clear glass cases filled with a variety of doughnuts. Really wishing I took a picture of the cases now, but on this particular day it was around 1pm so it wasn’t quite filled enough for a picture worth sharing. There were only three chairs located inside of the establishment for dining in- so that also says a lot about the size of the bakery. Not that it's super important, but if there was ever a line of more than six or seven people then you’d basically be standing outside. This would be more of a “takeout” situation unless you get lucky enough to find empty seats.

Now to the more fun part of the experience, THE DOUGHNUTS.

So we chose the Strawberries w/ Whip Creme, S’mores, and Fruity Pebbles doughnuts. We also chose the churro and dulce de leche mini doughnuts. “We” being one of my friends because I like to share my dining adventures and new experiences with others 99% of the time.

I ordered the Strawberries with Whip Creme filled doughnut for myself and OH BOY. It was filled with whip cream and strawberries with powdered sugar on top. Not only was it aesthetically pleasing, but it was literally a party in my mouth. The strawberries bought a fruity aspect into play that was greatly appreciated and the whip cream was a nice change of pace since most “fillings” are thick or heavy like cream cheese or pudding. So basically it was light and airy which made me feel a little better about that doughnut being the first thing I ate on a Monday afternoon (if you're judging me about this you're not minding your business and you need to).

The doughnut was also very large in size and the creme filling noticeably added to the size of the doughnut overall. If you don’t wanna make a complete mess of your hands and face, I suggest eating these doughnuts with a fork and knife. Or if you just have small hands like me, definitely use utensils. Despite its size, its very easy to eat this doughnut in one sitting, but I doubt the average person can consume too many of the regular sized doughnuts from Honeybee in one sitting because they’re pretty big. We also tried the fruity pebbles doughnut, and it was a nice spin on a classic cereal flavor. If you want a truly memorable experience for your first visit, I would recommend the Strawberry doughnut if it's in season. Try one that has some type of filling or topping first so you get flavor while you’re eating the entire pastry!

Another one I enjoyed was the small churro doughnut because the cinnamon sugar was present while eating the entire doughnut and the dough was sooooo tasty! For some reason it seemed as if the smaller doughnut was made with a different batter than the larger one–weird. The batter seemed more flavorful in the smaller doughnuts and I’m almost certain I could easily eat several of them in a row with very little guilt.

So, the point of this post is to expose you to a cool doughnut spot you’ve most likely never heard of before or seen and to get you to try new varieties you weren't aware of. Most people frequent Dunkin' Doughnuts every morning before work and you can most likely find one easily but I'm challenging you to change it up a little and try Honeybee Doughnuts because it could easily be your new favorite pastry shop! Go for the experience, for the cleanliness, for the nice greeter/cashiers who work there and more importantly, FOR THE DOUGHNUTS!! It’s a new experience overall and if you don’t like the doughnuts after trying them, go to the cool boutiques and restaurants located next door to forget about your experience. Kidding, but not really.

All in all, I enjoyed this spot! It was cute, it was clean and I loved the doughnuts! Yes, I used the word cute to describe this spot. Sorry guys, this is what girls say to describe things from time to time.

Price: Nothing too crazy. Ranges about $3-$6 per doughnut. Of course the price is a little more than a doughnut from a gas station or Krispy Kreme, but I believe strongly that a little more love was put into these especially if there’s only one location.

Occasion: It’s a doughnut shop. Just go in and “treat yo self”

Decor: Soooo cute. The yellow and white color scheme is nice and simple. The glass cases filled with doughnuts are extremely inviting and it's very clean here! (That matters to me a lot if you're wondering how the cleanliness is relevant and why I mention it so much.)
